My life before I joined Fisch Asset Management
I came across Snake on the VC20 home computer of a school friend, and
my interest in computers was kindled by this machine, which at any rate
had about 4 kilobytes of programmable memory (RAM).
On a C64 - with an impressive 38 kilobytes of RAM - I
developed a medical program together with my father. As IBM-compatible
personal computers became affordable, I transferred the medical program
to one. The PC had an impressive 128 kilobytes of RAM, and my father
prophetically stated, "There will never be a need for more memory than
that". During my studies, my "hobby" repeatedly provided me with good
opportunities to earn money.
After I had been working for just one year as a teacher, a
database producer offered me an interesting position (Consulting &
Presales) that included 128,000 kilobytes of RAM!
During a product presentation, I became acquainted with the
employees of Fisch Asset Management. There are rumors that Fisch Asset
Management lured me with 256,000 kilobytes of RAM.
By the way, despite 64,000 times more random access memory,
Snake is no better than it used to be. And I certainly hope that my
next computer has at least 512,000 kilobytes of memory, but now it is
time for me to talk about my life at Fisch Asset Management.
My duties at Fisch Asset Management
The most visible product of
my work is this website. Apart from this, administrative tasks
(webserver, fileserver, mailserver, security), support functions and
the development of back-office applications are all part of my
responsibilities.
When I'm not working, then ...
... I devote myself first to my
wife and three children (born in 1998, 2000 and 2002). There is nothing
more enjoyable than watching the kids grow (even though sometimes it
also requires nerves of steel). Unfortunately, my passion for board
games has suffered recently because of this. My collection of board
games (>1000 games) is gathering a bit of dust at the moment.
Nevertheless, I still nearly managed to have a game published (Heaven
& Hell). I read a lot (90% computer literature, 10% fiction).
What significance do "fish" have in my life?
During my primary
school days, I used to go fishing. To be more precise, I used to throw
out the hook (with the poor worm attached) and hope that no fish wanted
to bite, for I did not have the heart to do in the unfortunate
creatures.
Culinarily speaking, fish play a quite modest role in my
life. I like fish best when they are rectangular and breaded - lots of
lemon juice and even more mayonnaise can never hurt. And I would
possibly even go out of my way for a good mayonnaise-tuna-onion-parsley
spread. |
