My life before I joined Fisch Asset Management
Since the age of 14, I have always taken a passionate interest in
computers. After my first experiments in programming on a ZX Spectrum,
I began to study information technology, with meteorology as an
optional subject in my home town of Bonn. After graduating in 1998, I
continued my studies in “Scientific Computing” at ETH Zurich. Under the
supervision of Prof. Walter Gander and Prof. Marcus Grote, I chose as
the subject of my doctoral thesis efficient methods in digital
calculation, with particular reference to the solution of partial
differential equations in physics and chemistry. After graduating in
2003, I made a series of fascinating visits to five scientific
institutions: the Fraunhofer Institute, German Meteorological Service,
University of Colorado (Boulder, USA), Swiss National Supercomputing
Center (Lugano) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories
(Livermore, California, USA). After completing my studies at the ETH, I
spent 2 years at MeteoSchweiz, the Swiss national meteorological
service. Here I developed new methods for the use of wind measurements
in the operational weather model and also worked on the development of
a new thunderstorm warning system.
My duties at Fisch Asset Management
The management of the IT department entails a broad area of activities, starting with project organization over to specific programming. It is rewarding to see that IT systems can help making a business process more efficient.
When I'm not working, then ...
Activities with my family are my
favourite pastime. For the past two years, I have taken a theoretical
and practical interest in domestic technology and refurbishment. When I
still have any energy left over, I like endurance sports (triathlon,
inline-skating, ski touring).
What significance do "fish" have in my life?
My children are
both pisces and my wife loves fishes as decorative objects. I like to
eat fish and now I am working with the Fisch. |
